Biography
Brian was helping his Bay Street bank colleagues and friends prepare for their financial services industry exams long before he realized that he was actually teaching and loved it. By the time Brian had earned his MBA and the CFA charter, he had accepted a tentured post in the Business School at Centennial College (where he taught business and finance courses for the next 14 years), and had established a highly-reputable CFA® exam review program (Canadian Academics), which was later acquired by Kaplan Schweser.
Brian has been writing, teaching and tutoring in all areas and levels of Finance for over 20 years. He has motivated and inspired 1000s of CFA, CFP, QAFP, CIM, CSC candidates at Exam Success and many firms, banks, brokerages and higher-level Canadian learning institutions including Queen's University, Ryerson University and Wilfrid Laurier University.
Brian has been a featured instructor at the Kaplan Schweser CFA Review Study Seminar for Financial Analysts at the University of Windsor (known as WindsorWeek™) and has authored and been quoted in numerous industry publications. Two of his many notable accomplishments include the development of the Queen's University Certificate in Financial Analysis CFA Program and the signature Prof. Gordon Approach™; the methodology behind his distinguished and proven learning system.
One of Brian's strengths is his exceptional ability to get students to think about the goal of the exam prepration process differently, and thereby reduce their study stress. Brian has long understood the power of financial services industry standardized tests in advancing one's career but, unlike other Prep Providers, Brian is realistic about the goal of the exam and strategically focuses students on what matters to pass rather than on material mastery or perfection.
When he is not simplifying, creating and teaching what many review as the best CFA, CFP, QAFP, CIM, CSC exam study materials and courses, Brian enjoys coaching hockey as well as travelling, hiking and cycling as an escape from the downtown-Toronto city life. Rumour has it, he was once an avid canoe tripper.
