The Canadian Securities Course (CSC®) is the baseline regulatory requirement to perform securities, mutual fund and alternative funds transactions in many financial services positions.
Many individuals will start with the Canadian Securities Course because they know that it is the ideal starting point for anyone interested in a career in Canada's finanical services industry.The CSC helps to open doors to entry-level positions for anyone wanting to become a registered broker, investment representative or financial planner, personal investor or work in administrative roles.Besides enhancing your investment knowledge, financial advisory skills and giving you the tools you need to pass the CSC exams, the CSC can also be used to meet the educational requirements for the PFP — Personal Financial Planner, CIM — Chartered Investment Manager and MTI — MTI Estate and Trust Professional.Additionally, the Canadian Securities Course can lead towards certificates, including financial services advice, fixed income trading and sales, advanced mutual funds advice and others offered through the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) — a Moody's Corporation owned company — the leading provider in Canada of financial learning, credentials and certification.
To pass the 2 CSC exams, the CSC course — designed for self-study but also offered through various institutions in partnership with CSI — = provides the necessary knowledge. The Exam 1 and Exam 2 CSC course textbooks cover the different financial instruments in the industry like equities, traded funds, other managed products, structured products and derivatives as well as Canadian taxation in relation to these investments and other topics. Additionally, the material covers how to assess company, industry and market performance; ways to better serve clients, and industry standards and ethics while gaining a better understanding of the financial services and investments in Canada and its regulatory environment.
The CSC course will prepare you for the two computer-based Canadian Securities Course exams. The exams are two hours long and carry 100 multiple choice questions each. Upon completing the exams (60% or higher is passing), students can apply for their mutual fund licensing.
Once you've passed the 2 exams in the course you will be able to download a Notice of Course Completion available through your CSI student profile. This will remain on your profile as formal indication of course completion.
CSI will mail you a wall certificate within 4 - 6 weeks of course completion.
