CSC Exam Dates
There is lots of flexibility to book exams at different days and times. The Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) gives you the option to write your CSC exam through remote proctoring from any location, including your home, or in-person at a test centre. Test centers are located in select cities across Canada.
CSC Exam Format
The CSC course consists of two multiple-choice exams that must be completed within one year of registration. Exam takers must score at least 60% to pass the exam. The CSC Exam 1 and the CSC Exam 2 are each 2 hours in duration and each CSC exam consists of 100 free-standing multiple choice questions. You don't loose any marks for incorrect answers.

How much does it cost to register the CSC exams?
| Registration costs a minimum of C$1180 plus taxes. This fee includes the online textbooks (PDFs) and one CSC Exam 1 attempt and one CSC exam 2 attempt. If you need to take an exam a second or third time (up to three per exam is permitted) you must pay CSI an exam sitting fee of about $300 plus taxes per attempt. |

When can I book my CSC exam?
| Once you've enrolled for the CSC exams, studied the material and decided on your exam format (remote proctored or in-person), you are ready to book your exam. Visit https://www.csi.ca/student/en_ca/logon/login.xhtml and log into MyCSI, click on Book / Reschedule / Cancel An Exam (in the right-side menu), and follow the instructions on the screen to choose a time and location that works best for you, within your active enrollment period.. |
| Note: Computer-based exams are available in select cities. The benefit of computer-based exams is that once you finish you find out instantly if you passed or failed. You just have to wait a day or two to find out the exact percentage you got. |
What is the CSC exam passing score?
| Test takers must score 60% or higher to pass each of the CSC Exam 1 and CSC Exam 2 tests. |
How difficult are the CSC exams?
| The CSC exams are challenging because the exam answers choices tend to be very similar to each other. To confidently pass (get a score of 60% or above), you need to know the material well. Some students spend weeks preparing while others spend months. How long you need to study prior to the exam depends on factors like how much available study time you can or want to allocate. CSI recommends that candidates budget between 135 to 200 hours of studying for the Canadian Securites Course. That said, we often hear from Exam Success students that our materials help them spend less time studying, as much as 50% less than CSI's recommended number.
